31-AUG: Several people have asked for a peninsula pickup, which I'm happy to accommodate but I am headed to Los Angeles on Thursday (checking out the Rose Bowl Flea Market for the first time!) so I am offering up Tuesday afternoon/evening 5PM - 8PM in South San Francisco, just north of SFO. at my new warehouse location. Everything is up in Novato so you must let me know within 24 hours of auction close so I can bring it back to San Francisco and you must pay the invoice before Friday's pickup. If you don't tell me in advance and you don't show up in Novato, I will assume it abandoned and it will go into Picks & Treasures $1 Sunday sale.

30-AUG: I think we'll have to call it at 124 lots. The day just got away from me again. But I think we're getting the rhythm of this so expect to see me make a monthly appearance, fingers crossed. I also noticed that Dina is making Labor Day weekend accommodations. There are very few who understand juggling pickup schedules as I do so if you need special accommodations due to being out of town please send me an email at [email protected]. I will be out of town from the 9th to the 14th so any special arrangements before the 9th might entail picking up in South San Francisco. But if there's something you want, I want to see what I can do to get it into your hands. Enjoy!

28-AUG: I should have the empty lots filled by Monday. Apologies for the delay but I wasn't familiar with the specifics of how the Picks and Treasures picture-taking process flowed. I'm working on redoing those lots and aim to have them filled by Sunday evening. What I need are interns like Junk and Disorderly. Now how can I Trick encourage some young people to work free for me?

Thank you for coming to take a look at what I hope is the beginning of a monthly offering that I'll be bringing to you. As a reintroduction, my name is Greg and I currently sell vintage, mostly mid-century glass, pottery and decor items, on both Etsy and in Antiques Unlimited in San Carlos, CA. This all is a hobby/side hustle for me as I have a day job working in a completely unrelated industry. What you will see me bringing to Bay Area Online Auctions is more of a mix of items since my other two channels don't allow me to sell off more contemporary items. My lots will still mostly be in the vintage category.

If you participated in one of my experimental auctions six months ago, pickups will be at PICKS & TREASURES in NOVATO, CA. I am not offering a shipping option for this auction, but if you live on the peninsula or South Bay and would prefer a more southern pickup, please contact me before you bid to confirm we can work something out. Expect my auctions to move down to the peninsula once I get my new storage space in South San Francisco, just north of SFO, up and running.

CHARITY LOTS: You will see a few lots tagged as Charity Lots. These are items that were given to me by a lovely woman in San Jose who found me through my Etsy Store. She saw that I was selling a dinner pattern, Metlox Sculptured Daisy, that she wanted to find a home for. It's a popular Easter pattern that sells quite well in Feb and March. She purchased the set herself as a young college student at a Los Angeles flea market where Metlox had a store. She no longer had use for it and her children didn't want it so she asked that I'd find a new home for them. Upon picking them up she also gave me a few other items she no longer wanted. She would not take money for the items so I told her I'd put them in my next auction and donate the proceeds to charity. I've chosen World Central Kitchen as the charity to receive the net proceeds from these lots. They, amongst many things that they do, provide meals to those affected by world disasters as well as the emergency workers deployed to those areas.

ETSY STORE: As I have done in my previous auctions, if you win a lot and wish to purchase something from my Etsy Store, I will give you a 20% discount and have it with your items when you pickup. Unfortunately, it's a bit sparse right now as I've been focusing on the brick and mortar, but if you see something you like, please complete the purchase and send me a note that you are an auction winner. I will refund the 20% back to you. Because the auction ends on Wed, you must complete your purchase by end of day on Wednesday

I hope you enjoy the auction and find lots of things you might want.

10% Buyers Premium and CA Sales Tax added to all invoices. There will be a 40% re-stocking fee on all non-payments. Failure to pick up item(s) on stated pick-up days or times will result in your items being forfeited and disposed of accordingly. All items are sold as is and there are absolutely no refunds.

6-JAN-20: And that's all she wrote, folks. I still have quite a bit that I intended to get in this auction but ran out of time. Oh well, next one, which will be sometime towards the end of January.

5-JAN-20: We're up to 50 listings and I still have a bit more to go. Final number will be somewhere around 60 I think. I'll stop by 6 PM tomorrow night  I know I need to add a few dimensions to some of the items and there's that one lot with horrible blurry pictures. Anything I don't get listed will spill into the next auction which will probably be in late January because I need a break.

And as a reminder, winners will get a discount code for 20% off my Etsy store. It's sparser than I'd like at the moment because I've been so focused on getting these auctions one.

3-JAN-20: Happy new year all, and thank you for coming to take a look at my second auction. And if you participated in my first one, thank you for being a bug tester and coming back for a second go. Time continues to be my enemy as we approach the start time. So you will see some empty slots where those items are not quite ready for prime time. I am expecting to have about 75 lots in this auction. I will announce here when the last has been listed.

I am going to bring this live as I'm working on it so you can begin previewing about 2.5 hours early. If any questions come up before then, I'll answer them after the auction begins.

Please do NOT bid if you are unable to pick up on the designated days and times. You MUST reserve a slot beforehand by following the instructions in the winning email. If you arrive outside your reserved time slot or you did not reserve a time slot, I may at my discretion ask you to return later. You will be picking up from the storage facility I rent from so I would prefer not to attract undue attention. It helps to let me know ahead of time. You may send someone in your place if your invoice has been paid, but please let me know ahead of time.

Items are sold as is. I do my best to show or describe any issues or damage in the listing but there are absolutely no refunds.

15% Buyers Premium and CA Sales Tax added to all invoices. There will be a 40% re-stocking fee on all non-payments. Failure to pick up item(s) on stated pick up days or times will result in your items being forfeited and disposed of accordingly. Absolutely no refunds.

Please bring your own boxes, packing supplies, labor, and tools to dismantle (if required). I often will have items pre-packed because I transport the items to San Carlos. Many lots get packed together so you should not count on there being materials available.

Winners will also receive a 20% discount code to my Etsy store, valid until 48 hours before the last pickup. Those items purchased will be with your winnings at pick-up. Please be sure to complete your purchase 24 hours before your chosen pickup time to give me time to retrieve your purchase.

UPDATE: This took me a lot longer to pull together than I expected. My original goal was much higher. So I plan to launch this auction with 40 listings and add another 10 at least before the end of the auction. I will stop listing 36 hours before the end of the auction (7:00 AM on Tuesday) and start collecting for the next. I got a lot more where this came from, my friends. Thanks!

*****

Hi, my name is Greg and I'm excited to be running my first of many, I hope, auctions on this site. It's been just over two years since I decided to get in on the selling side of this game. For the record, this is not my day job where I lead a global team whose responsibility is the release of all of our company's digital products.

I started selling mid-century dinnerware, glassware and pottery art about two years ago on Etsy. You can visit my store at https://www.etsy.com/shop/MostlyMidCenturySF. At the beginning of this year, I opened a physical location and started selling at Antiques Unlimited in San Carlos. I really enjoy selling through both of these channels but they both have limitations on what can be sold as well as what sells well and what doesn't.

And that's where Bay Area Online Auctions comes in. So the items in my auction are all my inventory that I'm selling to you. So to manage expectations what you will be getting from my lots are:

  • Items that may or may not have come from estate sales. I acquire things through several different channels, but it is all inventory that I own.
  • Items that I may have acquired here. I am going to do my best not to include items that I won here. If I do its only because I forgot.
  • Lots may or may not be mostly mid-century, but I think they mostly will.
  • Items that may not be in perfect condition. I don't like selling damaged items. If a dinnerware piece has any chips, cracks or crazing, especially crazing, It's gone. I don't sell it. (If you are using any dinnerware that has those grey to black crazing lines in it, go Google what is causing that and you'll want to throw it out.) But sometimes the item is still too valuable or the damage is in an inconspicuous location that there may still be someone out that that might want it. I will always go one step further when I put items of that type in the auction beside just the picture. I understand why auction houses do that, but I want you to make a fully informed decision. There will be some Roseville pieces in this first auction, for example, that fit this category.
  • Items that are somewhat curated and of higher quality. I'm not throwing shade at BAOA but they are selling off estates. All of the items in my auction I purchased or purchased the group it was in.

One thing to also make clear is this is not a seller-managed auction run by BAOA. This is my auction run on their platform so any issues that come up, please come to me, not them. If you do, they will tell you just to contact me. My contact information is on here somewhere but because I have a day job, please only call if you have something time urgent to discuss or you haven't gotten a response and even then I don't answer the phone if the name is not known to me. So do please leave a message. Texting (415.734.1706) or email ([email protected]) are your best options for reaching me.

I've kept the auction parameters as similar to BAOA's as possible. I have a higher Buyer's Price which will help to play the platform fee. My pickups will likely be on the peninsula or at the very least south of the GG Bridge. Pickups for now will be at my storage unit in San Carlos. Hopefully this is a more central location that will be more attractive to the southern Bay Area folk.

The one new element that I will be adding is a discount to my Etsy shop for lot winners. They will get 20% off anything in my Etsy shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/MostlyMidCenturySF) for the first 48 hours after the end of the auction. I will include a coupon code in your winning email. When you come pick up your auction wins, I'll have anything you may have purchased from the Etsy site with me for you to pickup then as well. Yes, you may share that code if you'd like but anything purchased must be picked up when you pick up your auction wins. If you aren't the one completing the purchase on Etsy, please make sure who you are is captured in the notes field so I can make sure the item is there for you when you come to pick up.

I am still working on pulling things together so initially the preview is small but more pictures to come. Enjoy!

Thanks, Greg
