XL Bronze Sculpture ROMAN GOD MERCURY HERMES 19thC NoR Bronze Skulptur MERKURIUS HERMES 19. Jahrh. Mercury / Hermes is known as a messenger, blowing by the wind; in Roman mythological the god of communication and message, but also the god of trade and profit, merchants and travelers.
The attribute of Mercury is the caduceus (a winged staff) and also a purse, with wings on arms and/or legs and always with a petasus (winged hat). In Greek mythology known as Hermes. It’s all to view at this fine bronze sculpture statue, good condition, with a very fine patina of years.
The round base has a face of the wind, the sides a relief with artistic putti as a sculptor, painter and writer. Made the end of the 19th century. Signature “J. de Bologne”(Giovanni da Bologna created the original sculpture in 1580, Italy)
Measurements : base diameter 7”, height 34.5”. Overall in good condition.
