This is a vintage mid century modern sewing box table made in Norway by Strømmen Bruk of Hamar, a respected Scandinavian furniture maker known for high-quality craftsmanship. Dating to the late 1950s to mid 1960s, this piece features a classic expandable accordion-style design with multiple interior compartments and solid wood construction, likely birch or beech, finished in a warm honey-toned lacquer. The original red label inside reads “AS Strømmen Bruk Hamar – Product of Norway,” confirming authenticity.
The sewing box opens smoothly to reveal generous storage and includes extending side surfaces, allowing it to function as both a sewing or craft cabinet and an elegant side table. Please note that one small wooden component is missing, as shown in the photos. This does not affect the stability or ability to open and close the compartments, but is disclosed for accuracy. The piece shows light surface wear consistent with age and use and remains structurally sound with all expanding mechanisms functioning properly.
