Antique oak writing table manufactured by The Davis-Birely Table Co. of Shelbyville, Indiana and bearing the original patent label dated March 6, 1909. This unusual schoolhouse-form desk features a concealed lift-top writing compartment within the drawer, complete with molded pen trays and an inkwell recess designed for fountain pen use. Constructed of solid oak with tapered legs, side stretchers, and original wooden drawer pulls. A wonderful example of early 20th-century American educational furniture retaining its original character. Displays expected wear from age and use, including finish loss and surface marks consistent with over a century of service.
