Antique upholstered hall bench or conversation chair dating to the turn of the 20th century. Features a carved hardwood frame with Eastlake and Aesthetic Movement influences, including geometric carving, open spindle panels with turned ball accents, rolled arm supports, and turned legs. The wide seat and distinctive asymmetrical back create an unusual and decorative form suitable for entryway, bedroom, or parlor use. Upholstered in a floral tapestry fabric that appears to be a later replacement. A great example of transitional American furniture from the late Victorian to early Arts & Crafts period, circa 1900.
