Early 20th century hand-knotted Persian runner attributed to the Sarab weaving region of East Azerbaijan in northwestern Iran. Measuring approximately 34 inches wide by 176 inches long, this exceptionally long runner features a warm camel-toned ground decorated with a chain of bold geometric medallions, angular lozenges and stylized tribal motifs. Deep madder red, indigo blue, soft blue, ivory and muted rose accents appear throughout the field and compartmented borders. Hand-knotted wool pile over an apparent cotton foundation, displaying the characteristic elongated format and geometric village craftsmanship associated with Sarab rugs. The reverse confirms traditional hand-knotted construction. Condition includes age-related pile wear, areas of reduced pile, irregular and worn fringe, and expected edge wear; please review all photographs. Fiber content of the camel-toned field has not been laboratory verified.
