Description:
Offered is a single commemorative .999 fine silver medallion issued to commemorate the Total Solar Eclipse of July 11, 1991, as observed from Hawaiʻi. The medallion was minted by the Honolulu Mint by order of the Bishop Museum & Planetarium of Hawaiʻi, and is accompanied by its original Certificate of Authenticity.
The obverse depicts a traditional Hawaiian coastal scene with figures, canoe, and landscape under the night sky, inscribed “Pouli Holoʻokoʻa ʻAna a Ka Lā – Hawaiʻi”, reflecting the cultural interpretation of the eclipse. The reverse features an astronomical design titled “Total Eclipse of the Sun”, dated July 11, 1991, with eclipse imagery and observatory motifs.
According to the Certificate of Authenticity, this commemorative medallion is struck in .999 fine silver, measures approximately 39.2 mm in diameter, and weighs 1 troy ounce. The piece is housed in a protective capsule and appears to be in excellent condition, consistent with careful storage. Documentation is signed and issued by the Bishop Museum.
